Since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, Lake Country Medical Aid for Ukraine (LCMAU), co-founded by Dr. Nicolas Chronos of Lake Country Medical Group and Ralph Olson, has spearheaded local efforts in Georgia to raise generous funds through benefit concerts, online giving campaigns, and similar fundraising events, to supply desperately needed and requested medical supplies into the war zone of Ukraine. Through partnering with the Heal Ukraine Group (HUG), co-founded by Dr. Mark Poznansky of Harvard Medical and Massachusetts General Hospital, we are in direct contact with Ukrainian medical practitioners on the ground, receiving specific requests for damaged, lost, or used up medical supplies necessary to sustain healthcare access. Health Tech Without Borders (HTWB) is a global non-profit organization, born out of the need for a coordinated medical response to the conflict in Ukraine. During the last months, over 62,806 children and adults have been treated using telehealth free of charge. HTWB aims to mitigate healthcare crises by leveraging digital tools and technology to provide immediate access to health resources. Global Medical Knowledge Alliance (GMKA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to improve cancer and trauma care in Ukraine and globally. GMKA focuses on creating physician and patient medical educational content that is evidence based, written by experts, and available through an online platform. While the work of GMKA pre-dated the war, the shift since Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine has been to pour efforts into the procurement and delivery of medical supplies in collaboration with fellow grassroot organizations LCMAU and HUG. Autism Unity is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works to address the mental health crisis affecting Ukrainians, especially the well-being of families and children with autism. Autism Unity is coordinating a system to ensure that children with autism and their families have access to sufficient high quality therapeutic services to help them thrive and live fulfilling lives within communities and environments that are safe and welcoming.
